The World Health Organization declared about an international public health emergency, due to epidemiological seriousness.<\/p>\n

Since December 2019 we heard about the coronavirus, a disease first identified in the city of Wuhan, China. The disease causes flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain and fatigue, which may progress with possible complications, including pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, septic shock and death.<\/p>\n

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large viral family that cause respiratory infections in humans and animals. Some coronaviruses can cause severe respiratory syndromes, such as the severe acute respiratory syndrome that became known by the acronym SARS from \"Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome\" - SARS-CoV and respiratory syndrome of the Middle East, acronym is MERS, from \"Middle Syndrome Respiratory System \u201d- MERS-CoV.<\/p>\n

The new virus was named COVID19, (Coronavirus Disease 2019), an infectious disease caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the most common transmission between people is through droplets produced by sneezing, coughing or exhalation or physical contact with contaminated areas, and a contagious phase occurs between 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus.<\/p>\n

Brazil assesses the risk of the new Coronavirus and its impact on public health, therefore, in this moment the efforts are aimed at the containment phase. Therefore, all actions and measures are adopted to identify in a timely manner and avoid the spread of the virus, that is, strategies must be aimed at preventing the virus from being transmitted from person to person, in a sustainable manner.<\/p>\n

At this stage, the guidance of ANVISA (Brasilian National Health Surveillance Agency) is to follow the following precautions (for droplets and contact) when assisting suspected or confirmed patients:<\/p>\n

  1. Constant hand hygiene;<\/li>\n
  2. Surface hygiene;<\/li>\n
  3. Use of masks, mob cap, gloves and aprons;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    According to an article published by The Lancet, most patients have symptoms and a good prognosis, those who had comorbidities resulted in severe and even fatal respiratory diseases, such as an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).<\/p>\n

    According to the study, the virus has a diameter between 0.05 and 0.2 \u00b5m and elderly patients with chronic diseases, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diseases of the endocrine system, diseases of the digestive system, are more susceptible to the poor prognosis. respiratory system, immune system diseases, malignant tumor, nervous system diseases and smoking history.<\/p>\n

    Early identification and timely treatment of necessary cases are of paramount importance, to prevent the progression of ARDS, septic shock and multiple organ failure. Drug treatment includes antibiotics and antivirals, and there are no vaccines for Covid 19 yet, in the most severe cases, the interval between the onset of symptoms and the use of ventilator assisted breathing can vary from 3 to 10 days.<\/p>\n

    Patients who need to use invasive ventilatory support must have implemented precautionary precautions for aerosols, in this case it is crucial to use a filter that acts as a microbiological barrier for bacteria and viruses.<\/p>\n

    The reason why this recommendation is given is the high risk of nosocomial infections, the heat and humidity exchange capacity as well as the barrier performance performed by the HME and HEPA filters are known, however, in order to have total safety, filtering effect and efficiency must be confirmed.<\/p>\n
